As a small business owner, I am deeply frustrated with Google's complete lack of accountability when it comes to fake reviews. I have been attempting to have a fraudulent review removed from my business profile for months, and despite multiple reports and requests, absolutely nothing has been done.
What most people do not realize is that anyone, including someone who has never set foot in your business or had any contact with you whatsoever, can leave a one-star review and damage your reputation overnight. There is no verification process, no accountability, and apparently no urgency on Google's part to investigate or act.
Google is one of the most trusted platforms in the world, and with that trust comes a responsibility to protect the businesses that rely on it. A fake review is not a minor inconvenience; it is an attack on someone's livelihood, and it should be treated as such.
This needs to be regulated, and it needs to stop. Until Google takes meaningful action to verify reviews and respond to removal requests in a timely manner, small businesses will continue to be vulnerable to this kind of abuse with no recourse.
